Published for The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI), the Journal of Social Issues (JSI) brings behavioral and social science theory, empirical evidence, and practice to bear on human and social problems. Each issue of the journal focuses on a single topic – recent issues, for example, have addressed poverty, housing and health; privacy as a social and psychological concern; youth and violence; and the impact of social class on education.

A subscription to JSI also includes a full subscription to SPSSI’s two other journals: Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy (ASAP) and the newest title, Social Issues and Policy Review (SIPR). An archival, print version of the annual collection will be provided to all SPSSI members and paid subscribers to JSI, ASAP, and SIPR.

The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) is an international group of over 3,000 psychologists, allied scientists, students, and others who share a common interest in research on the psychological aspects of important social issues. In various ways, the Society seeks to bring theory and practice into focus on human problems of the group, the community, and nations, as well as the increasingly important problems that have no national boundaries.

Through its activities–including the publication of the Journal of Social Issues (JSI), the electronic journal Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy (ASAP), the new periodical journal Social Issues and Policy Review (SIPR), and the SPSSI Newsletter, as well as annual programming at APA’s Annual Convention and SPSSI’s own conventions–SPSSI affords social and behavioral scientists means of applying their knowledge and insights to the critical problems of today’s world. Research on social issues is fostered through several annual award and grant programs. SPSSI also sponsors a number of theme conferences and research workshops. The James Marshall Public Policy Scholar and Scientist in the Public Interest, both located in Washington, D.C., work to implement SPSSI public policy initiatives at the federal level. With NGO status, SPSSI serves as consultant to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
